Port, Warehouse, and Trucking Jobs
A lot of Long Beach works in freight: at the port, in warehouses and distribution centers, and driving trucks. The wage problems in these jobs are often small per shift and large over a year. Think unpaid time in security lines, rounded time punches, and breaks that get skipped to hit a number.
That last one matters. At large warehouses (100 or more employees at one site, or 1,000 or more across California), state law bars quotas that keep workers from taking their breaks or using the bathroom, and employers have to tell you in writing what the quota is.
Truck drivers are frequently signed up as independent contractors. Under California’s ABC test, many of them are employees, which means overtime, breaks, and reimbursement for business expenses like fuel and equipment.
Long Beach Minimum Wage
Long Beach doesn’t have a general city minimum wage, so most employers must pay at least the state minimum of $16.90 an hour (2026). Hotel workers are different. Under Measure RW, covered Long Beach hotels must pay at least $26.50 an hour as of July 1, 2026, and the same rate applies to many workers at the airport and the convention center.
Filing a Wage Claim in Long Beach
The California Labor Commissioner has a district office in Long Beach at 1500 Hughes Way, and you can file a wage claim there yourself. Sometimes that’s the right move. When the same pay practice hits a whole warehouse, though, a class or representative action in court usually recovers more. Attorney Zachary Greenberg focuses on wage-and-hour class and representative actions. You generally have three years to go after unpaid wages, sometimes four. See wage deadlines.
