Production Work and Overtime

Studio City got its name from the studio lot at its center, and production work still drives a lot of jobs here. Production assistants and coordinators often work 12 and 14-hour days. California requires overtime after 8 hours and double time after 12 for non-exempt workers. A flat or day rate often doesn’t cover what’s owed. Your call sheets, texts, and pay records usually tell the story.

Restaurants and Bars on Ventura

Studio City is part of the City of Los Angeles, so the minimum wage is $18.42 an hour since July 1, 2026. In restaurants and bars, watch for managers sharing in the tip pool, which California prohibits; unpaid side work before and after shifts; and meal breaks that never happen on a double.

Assistants and Office Staff

A salary and an “exempt” title don’t make a job exempt. In 2026, an exempt employee generally has to earn at least $70,304 a year and spend most of their time on exempt duties. Being expected to answer the phone at night and on weekends can also raise on-call pay issues.

Cases We Handle

You generally have three years to recover unpaid wages, sometimes four. More on wage deadlines. The nearest Labor Commissioner office is in Van Nuys.
